Google, the undisputed ruler of all things digital, has created a new countdown timer to show its support for the impending Ethereum Merge.

Any search for "Ethereum Merge" or "The Merge" will return a countdown ticker estimating how much longer till the Merge will take, adjusted for the current difficulty, hash rate, and merge difficulty.

There's a cartoon of two smiling pandas sprinting toward each other with their hands outstretched, and their proximity is meant to increase as the Merge day approaches.

On Friday, Google Cloud developer Sam Padilla tweeted that the timer was "a fun little surprise" and a chance to show gratitude for "the labor that has been going into this for years."

He acknowledged that Google's search and laboratories team did the actual work, but took credit for "kicking off" the idea and subsequent discussion that led to the timer's implementation.

Padilla said in the same article, "The underlying data is getting grabbed directly from the blockchain via some of the nodes we manage." This means the countdown is always being updated in real time as new information is added to the blockchain.

When asked if pandas get more accessible as the Merge date approaches, he responded jokingly, "But you didn't hear that from me."

On May 6, Google established a Web3 team within Google Cloud to focus on developing and implementing its crypto initiatives.

But the Merge isn't just being closely watched by Google's developers.

Searches for the keyword "Ethereum Merge" on Google have scored above 50 numerous times in the last 30 days, with a peak score of 100 on September 3.

Term "peak popularity" is defined as 100, while "half as popular" is defined as 50. If no data exists for a given day, then the score will be 0.

At the same time, a recent survey by CoinGecko indicated that Singapore is the country most interested in the impending Ethereum Merge, followed by Switzerland, Canada, Germany, the United States, and the Netherlands.

The rankings were calculated by adding together the relative popularity of ten search phrases, such as "Ethereum Merge," "ETH Merge," and "Ethereum PoW."
